The very first civil partnership was formed in Croatia, under the life partnership legislation, on Friday evening when two men were registered as civil partners of each other at a ceremony in Zagreb.
Public Administration Minister Arsen Bauk, who confirmed the news about the first civil union just before the start of the Social Democratic party (SDP) leadership meeting on Saturday , said that another 17 same-sex couples had applied for civil partnership licences: that is 10 in Zagreb, three in Dalmatia, three in Istria and Rijeka, and a couple in northwest of the country.
Bauk said that the first same-sex couple registered as civil union was given two ties as a gift from the Croatian government for that ceremony.
