The State Electoral Commission (DIP) on Tuesday stated officially that the second round of presidential elections would be held on Sunday, January 11, and that competing against one another would be the two candidates who had won the most votes in the first round on December 28 – Ivo Josipovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
DIP stated that a decision on final results would be announced after voting was repeated at a polling station in Zagreb on January 4. The voting there was annulled because there were more ballots in the ballot box than voters who had turned out for the vote.
DIP underlined that results at that polling station could not affect the overall result or the ranking of the candidates after the first round.
The first in that ranking is Josipovic with 687,558 or 38.46% of votes, followed by Grabar-Kitarovic with 665,309 or 37.22% of votes, Ivan Sincic of the Human Barrier civil society organisation with 293,562 votes or 16.42%, and Milan Kujundzic of the Alliance for Croatia with 112,581 votes or 6.30%.
DIP called on voters to turn out for the elections on January 11. They will be able to cast their ballots at 6,350 polling stations, of which 90 are designated for out-of-country voting. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 7pm.
