The government has sent its opinion to the Constitutional Court with regard to a request to call a state referendum concerning the adoption of a law on the outsourcing of non-core public-sector services, a press release from the closed session of the government on Thursday says.
Parliament had requested the Constitutional Court to define whether the referendum question, as proposed by unionists who collected signatures for the referendum, was in compliance with the Constitution and whether constitutional provisions were met to call a state referendum pursuant to a request by an organising committee of voters to express their will for the need to call a referendum relating to the adoption of a law on the outsourcing of non-core public sector services.
The government considers that it was justified for the parliament to request that the referendum question be checked for its compliance with the constitution and recommends that the Constitutional Court rejects the request to call that referendum.
The government also issued its opinion on the decision relating to a request to call a referendum relating to the question of monetising debts of the motorway operators by leasing Croatia’s motorways. Parliament had requested the Constitutional Court to define the contents of the referendum question and whether it met constitutional provisions for a referendum to be called with regard to amending the Roads Act.
The government considers that it was justified for the parliament to request that the referendum question be checked for its compliance with the constitution and recommends that the Constitutional Court rejects the request to call that referendum.
